What is premature ovarian failure. This is a condition where the ovaries stop functioning before the age of 35 years. The patient presents either with absence of periods or very irregular and scanty periods. It can be diagnosed by doing FSH and Amh levels where the FSH levels are high and Amh levels are very low. The only treatment available is doing ivf using donor oocytes. Hence doing Amh and FSH levels is very important in patients above 32 yrs of age and in younger patients also if they have irregular cycles or long standing secondary amenorrhea.
