Intracytoplasmic sperm injection or icsi involves stimulating the ovaries to produce more eggs, retrieving them under USG guidance and injecting the sperms into the cytoplasm off the egg. This procedure is useful in patients with low sperm count and motility. After the eggs are fertilized, the formed embryo is inserted into the uterus. Success rates of this procedure vary from 35 to 40 percent. A very useful procedure and a boon to patients with male factor infertility.
