Pregnancy induced hypertension where blood pressure rises only during pregnancy is commonly seen after 20 wks. Primigravidas, twin pregnancy, pregnancy in elderly patients are most commonly affected with this problem. Excessive weight gain, swelling all over the body, excessive loss of proteins in the urine, headache, are some of the presenting symptoms. Close clinical monitoring and judicious antihypertensive ttherapy are the mainstay of treatment.
